Necessity of Mystical Experience

Necessity of Mystical Experience

“Developing Plato's dualistic understanding of reality, Plotinus taught that true reality lies 'beyond' the physical world. This 'reality beyond reality' has no limits and so cannot be described by words, since words invariably have limits. Plotinus, again borrowing from Plato, calls this ultra-reality the 'Good' or the 'One'. The One/Good has no limits and is so supremely right that it overflows or 'emanates' to produce 'Intellectual-Principle' or 'Divine Mind' - nous. This Intellectual-Principle, in turn, overflows and 'Divine-Soul' emanates from it. This process continues as Divine-Soul generates the material world. The lowest level of emanation, at the furthest extreme from the One/Good, is the utter formlessness and unreality of matter. The goal of philosophy is to awaken individuals to the reality beyond the material world. But philosophy alone cannot take a person to the highest reality of the One. Only mystical experience can unite an individual with the One” ……….Baird & Kaufmann

Plato’s dualistic reality was defined in a relationship which existed between the world and fundamental forms. The reason why Plotinus is considered a Neo-Platonist can be seen from the process of how Plotinus while basing his foundation on Platonic philosophy of reality, defines a deeper and higher reality from which all different levels of emanations take place..
While in Plato’s thought the world and the forms were assigned equal weightage, Plotinus evolves a thought that is based on matter or the world as an emanation of a deeper and more fundamental reality which he goes on to define as ‘Intellectual Principle’ or ‘Divine mind’. This thought process is very much metaphysical and has its roots in Eastern mysticism’

Here I would like to quote Alan Watts and his take on “form being void”
“The Buddhist principle that “form is void” does not mean that there are no forms. It means that forms are inseparable from their context- that the form of a figure is also the form of its background, that the form of a boundary is determined as much by what is outside as by what is inside. The doctrine of sunyata, or voidness, asserts only that there are no self-existent forms, for the more one concentrates upon any individual thing, the more it turns out to involve the whole universe.”

The findings in modern science have revealed that the atom is 99.999999% void and that all fundamental sub atomic particles are strings of energy vibrating in different dimension. Gravity itself is not a force but a topology of space-time.

Man exists in a limited four dimensional world and his consciousness is moulded in this context of rationalism and Cartesianism. This is the reason Plato and his student Aristotle and later their followers such as Plotinus, Augustine and Thomas Aquinas, had to have recourse to a dualistic construct of reality; one being the perception oriented objective reality and the second a generalized construct of the inscrutable as Forms, Soul, One/Good, God etc. Rene Descartes philosophy of mind went overboard in a clean sweep to eradicate all reality except the mind and all its derivative.
Epistemology based on rationalism and empiricism is inadequate in the search for fundamental realty. A merging of the analytic and synthetic knowledge acquisition process was attempted by Immanuel Kant.

“Kant tried to show that there was a pre-existing mental apparatus and there was a physical world. He placed both in a noumenal world. For Kant, noumenal reality was a marriage of the mental and the physical; both were ultimately real but unknowable.” ………….“Critique of Pure Reason” by Immanuel Kant

The arrival of scientific enquiry into the nature of the microcosm that lead to the development of quantum mechanics and the nature and role of consciousness as fundamental reality and that all observations resulted in an objective reality.

The inadequacy of grasping reality through the mind though subtly understood by these leading philosophers and this is why Plotinus points out that philosophy alone is insufficient to grasp this higher reality but man requires a mystical experience where in the higher reality which is part of his own makeup is evoked to provide an experience this higher reality within his consciousness.

This renewed search through mystical experience or the deeper probing of the process of consciousness and its role in precipitating reality is a part of the evolutionary trend of the human species.

Cause for Sin

It was Arjuna who asked Sri Krishna: “But what impels man to commit sin, O Krishna, in spite of himself and driven as it were, by force?”
The blessed Lord said:  “It is desire, it is wrath, which, springs from passion. Know that it is our enemy here, a monster of greed and sin. As a flame is enveloped by smoke, as a mirror by dust, and as an unborn babe by the womb, so is this enveloped by that.” …………….Gita: Ch. 3: 37 – 38

This saying from Bhagavad Gita is paramount to understanding the woes of humanity today. If we undertake a deep study of biodiversity and our own body, we can see the unmitigated cooperation between species and organs. right from the bacteria over nearly three billion years. Altruistic behaviour is the common denominator in the evolutionary history of all living organisms. It is only when Homo sapiens became the self-aware species, that a disconnect happened and the true knowledge and purpose of being endowed with higher level of consciousness was lost. Psychological testing of children as young as one year old has demonstrated that we are wired for both survival as well as altruistic behaviour.

The prominent factors that influence the selfishness, passion and greed in human beings are;

First, the current misunderstanding of the purpose of human life. Human life must be understood as a catalytic element, which has been assigned a key role through a higher level of consciousness that has been bestowed, in the evolution of planetary consciousness towards a grand unification in Cosmic plenum.

Second, religious teachings instead of being targeted at attaining a higher state of existence, have become means of controlling its followers and become monolithic structures with self-propagation and expansion as their agenda. This has generated a culture of intolerance and hatred. They have failed to transcribe the teachings of their master teachers by only targeting the literal meaning of scriptures to evolve a universal code of conduct and a set of laws with rewards and punishments, rather than their esoteric and spiritual content aimed at elevating individual souls and

Third, the evolving culture of having instead of being, which is the result of a capitalistic greed and resultant distorted value definition by which humanity lives today.

All these three are interrelated and have evolved over a period of time starting with the time when human race started settling down as agrarian society and humanity’s rational thinking started predominating our daily lives. I am not decrying the tremendous development that we have achieved through rational thinking in terms of betterment of human life and the vast amount of knowledge that has been gleaned from an objective perspective.

The outcome of all these developments has resulted in an ever widening subject - object duality. Religion should have played the mitigating role of providing the intuitive spiritual insight into this false notion by uniting all objective reality as manifestations in an all pervading essence of Divine consciousness. But instead all religions, though when founded by their respective founding masters stressed by them the true nature of all existence as explicit entities of the fundamental Divine implicit order and gave a set of associated morals and ethics in their respective cultures to live by, started to drift away and committed the unpardonable mistake of isolating and objectifying the very founding personalities or principles as external Divinities.

In the great epic, Mahabharata, we can see the symbolic evocation of how Arjuna asked for Krishna as opposed to Duriyodana, who asked for the armies. This reflects how Arjuna identifies himself with the Godhead while Duriyodana identifies himself with the power of external entities. While the desire for conquest annihilates Duriyodana, the non-desire for war and detachment leads Arjuna to Divine wisdom.
Though the verse quoted at the beginning of the article is easy to understand, a constant endeavour to obtain spiritual wisdom through right knowledge and its application can enable us to lead a sinless life.

Opening of the Lion Gate

“As we move into the energy of the Magdalene Gateway on 8-8-8 (2015), the totem of the Lion is of huge significance, this is the Lions Gate. Courage, bravery, perseverance and the ability to stand ones ground and be fully connected to the Earth plane is what is happening here. This naturally opens a portal because the Divine Feminine energies are linked to the Galactic core, the God-head and the Pleroma and so the more grounded this energy is, the more these divine powers will flood the Earth plane.” ……….Laura Magdalene Eisenhower

On 08.08.2015 as I was browsing the Facebook, the above quote struck me as significant due to its cosmic interpretation and as my own astrological sign happens to be Leo. There could be a synchronicity in a resultant thought that occurred to me and prompted me to write this article.

While the quote expresses the significance of the opening of the portal connecting the Divine plenum and the individual consciousness at the planetary level, it must also be understood that the Divine plenum being beyond the comprehension and grasp of the human consciousness has to have a point of intersection below which all manifestations have to be the expression of the Divine plenum but which needs a non-dual understanding. This intersection is what is called the Lion Gate or the Magdalene Gateway. In esoteric interpretation and from the human evolutionary timeline the Amygdala, which lies buried within the reptilian brain in the human beings, is also assigned the role of a portal to the third eye or the portal through which higher consciousness can be accessed. In human responses in the face of danger or threat, it is the Amygdala that plays a key role by passing the hippocampus and deriving direct behavioural, Autonomic and Endocrine emotional response.[i]

There is also an intimate connection between the Amygdala and the Pineal Gland.
Eastern spiritual traditions have understood this connectivity and has initiated spiritual practices which energize our Pineal gland through intense meditation.
The reason why I am going to great length to explain this association within the biological system of different mental planes and their connectivity is to establish that the Magdalene gate and the Amygdala-Pineal gland axis is one and the same and reflects the cosmic portal.

At the cosmic level, as the quote refers, the Galactic core is the portal through which connection to higher consciousness plane happens. We already know that every galaxy has a powerful black/white hole at its centre. This is the engine that drives the entire manifestation within the galaxy. The black hole is the horizon at which the four dimensional space-time, in which we individuals exist, vanishes into a white hole of higher dimensional reality. What we witness at the cosmic level is the same that transpires within the individual human consciousness. The pineal gland is the corresponding portal to the black/white hole of the galactic centre.

Now how this concept is conveyed through the scriptures can be seen in the following verse (I resort to only the Biblical reference):

“And one of the elders said to me, “Weep no more; behold, the Lion of the tribe of Judah, the Root of David, has conquered, so that he can open the scroll and its seven seals.” …………..Revelation 5:5

Opening the scroll and the seven seals refers to the upward movement of the serpent or Kundalini energy from the root chakra through all the seven chakras to establish a connection with the Godhead.

If we refer to modern literature, C. S. Lewis author of “The Chronicles of Narnia” wrote a letter to a friend of his which has now been published and therein he writes to explain the archetype of the talking lion as referring to the Divine consciousness of Christ:

“The stories are my answer. Since Narnia is a world of talking beasts, I thought Christ would become a talking beast (a talking beast represents an animal with higher consciousness) there as he became a man (God or higher consciousness living among man the lower consciousness) here. I pictured him becoming a lion there because a) the lion is supposed to be the king of beasts; b) Christ is called ‘the lion of Judah’ in the Bible.”

Words would be inadequate to express how one should process this knowledge we gain into an action. But an open minded enquiry through knowledge we gain in matters of the spirit always raises the intuitive creative potential and could act as the launch platform for elevation of our consciousness.

Please send your blessings, prayers and intentions for my continued work in the field of esoteric interpretation of mythologies and sacred writings.

Rescued from the Reed Basket

"Upon Moses’ birth, it is said that he was placed in a reed basket and set adrift in a river in order to avoid infanticide. He was later rescued by a daughter of royalty and raised by her as a Prince. This baby in a basket story was lifted directly from the myth of Sargon of Akkad of around 2250 BCE. Sargon was born, placed in a reed basket in order to avoid infanticide, and set adrift in a river. He was in turn rescued and raised by Akki, a royal mid-wife." ..........Zeitgeist

The Moses nativity story can be found at Exodus 2:1-10. Concerning Moses and Sargon, British Assyriologist, Dr. George Smith says:
"In the palace of Sennacherib at Kouyunjik I found another fragment of the curious history of Sargon... This text relates, that Sargon, an early Babylonian monarch, was born of royal parents, but concealed by his mother, who placed him on the Euphrates in an ark of rushes, coated with bitumen, like that in which the mother of Moses hid her child, see Exodus II. Sargon was discovered by a man named Akki, a water-carrier, who adopted him as his son, and he afterwards became king of Babylonia.... The date of Sargon, who may be termed the Babylonian Moses, was in the sixteenth century B.C. or perhaps earlier."

Regarding this theme, Murdock says:
"Like Moses, [the Indian virgin-born hero Karna] was placed by his mother in a reed boat and set adrift in a river to be discovered by another woman. The Akkadian Sargon also was placed in a reed basket and set adrift to save his life. In fact, ―The name Moses is Egyptian and comes from mo, the Egyptian word for water, and uses, meaning saved from water..."

Concerning the Moses myth, Barbara Walker likewise elaborates:
"The Moses tale was originally that of an Egyptian hero, Ra-Harakhti, the reborn sun god of Canopus, whose life story was copied by biblical scholars. The same story was told of the sun hero fathered by Apollo on the virgin Creusa; of Sargon, king of Akkad in 2242 BC; and of the mythological twin founders of Rome, among many other baby heroes set adrift in rush baskets. It was a common theme…"
In today’s article, I have quoted some of the writings of contemporary scholars who have researched in mythology and sacred writings.

The common theme is that the chosen one is always placed in a reed basket and extricated from waters of the river. Whether it be the Hebrew or Akkadian or Vedic mythology, this common theme has to have a significant spiritual meaning which would aid the elevation of individual consciousness. Extricating this meaning is the primary aim of this article.
The placing of a new born in a reed basket signifies creation of a unique environment within the river (flow of Divine consciousness) of life or creation which ultimately mingles with the ocean of universal Divine consciousness. The child that survives through this unique positioning is then extricated from the flow of worldly consciousness and placed in the hands of a spiritual mentor to be trained for a higher role in life.

The Moses story also amplifies the role of the two mothers of Moses. His biological mother who continues to tend to the bodily nourishment and the surrogate mother, the royal midwife or the royalty itself (the sister of the Pharaoh), who is responsible for the spiritual and wisdom nourishment fit to become the chosen ruler.
We also find that the Sun God plays an important role in the genesis of these mythological heroes. A son of the Sun God means one who is bestowed with solar consciousness or one who is intended to be the nourisher of planetary consciousness in the process of evolution of consciousness in creation, the forward flow towards the omega point or the Godhead.

This can be better understood by referring to the hierarchy of consciousness. In the organized structure of the cosmos, we can extrapolate that the four dimensional space-time consciousness evolves at the planetary level through the collaborative conceptualization of individual consciousness. We need a focal axis or a reference potential based on which this planetary consciousness comes into being and this is the solar consciousness as space-time itself is a derivative of the governing principle of planetary existence. In a similar manner the higher dimensions of solar evolution can be understood only in the context of the Galactic manifold.

As I have repeatedly stressed, the deeper meanings underlying myths are intended to elevate our consciousness to a higher level in our spiritual evolution.
